
A huge willow in the floodplain of the Waal river near Boven-Leeuwen, the Netherlands, is completely covered with the ghostly spins of the caterpillars of the willow ermine moth. I have seen the webs several times before, but never on this enormous scale. It is the impressive teamwork of millions of caterpillars.
