John Birch
I visited Iceland in my youth as part of a school geology trip but retuned there for the first time in over 35 years on a photographic workshop last year. The weather was pretty atrocious, especially when we visited the glacial lagoon at Jökulsárlón, where the icebergs carved from the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, get washout into the sea, many of which are broken up and scattered upon the black volcanic beach at Jökulsárla. They literally do sparkle like jewels. I spent an afternoon and morning in at Jökulsárlón but the ice of the beach was the draw form me, which I photographed in the waves using exposures from around 1/2 to 3 seconds trying to blur the water, but hopefully capture the ice in it's splendours. I had two 5D mark-II's with me, one which died in the constant rain at Jökulsárlón. It was rather challenging but the pictures were worth it.
