stanton moor, four trees

The unmistakeble silhouettes of the tall and elegant Common Ash (Fraxinus excelsior), adjacent to the comparatively squat and twisted form of a Common Oak (Quercus robur)while a Common Beech (Fagus sylvatica) stands slightly apart, growing at a field boundary on Stanton Moor. Ash and Beech are relatively long-lived, achieving ages of up to 300 years old but the oak can survive for up to 1000 years. The just emerging sun floods the cool blue sky with warm pink light.
