Joe Cornish’s new book This Land explores the wonderful diversity of the geology of Britain and celebrates the variety and scope of the British landscape.
Written with renowned countryside author Roly Smith, the book traverses our island nation from the Scottish Highlands to the Cambrian Mountains and down to the Jurassic Coast.
This Land also looks at how mankind has shaped the British landscape over thousands of years. Neolithic farmers, Iron Age Hill forts, Roman settlements, Middle Age Monastic estates and the mining legacy of the Industrial Revolution have all played a part in moulding the landscape we see today.
Major landforms, mountains, woodlands, coasts and Islands all feature as Joe and Roly share their personal experiences in images and words to illustrate fifty locations they feel define the diversity of the British landscape.
There is an accompanying exhibition of images from the book, which opens at the Joe Cornish Gallery in Northallerton from 9am, Saturday 2nd April. The exhibition is open to all but as part of the launch, Joe and Roly will also be giving a talk at 2pm.
Tickets priced £15 are available now via the Joe Cornish Gallery website or by calling the gallery on 01609777404.
