This last couple of weeks, instead of taking pictures I’ve been painting. No, not watercolour but emulsion. So photography has had to take a bit of a back burner whilst I wander around a 1905 house with a tray and a roller. The plus point is that the conservatory has a fabulous view of Sgorr Dhearg across the valley and I’ve been watching the same view for the last 10 days as the weather changes from rain to fog to snow and as the light changes from morning to evening to moonlit and it’s been a rare privilege to see just the massive variations in the look of a single mountain in a slice of a winter season. And there are very few better examples of how the weather conditions can transform a scene than Jan Bainar’s extraordinary image of a frost feather forest as seen on the front cover of this issue.
