Every time we look at the news at the moment, it seems there is another storm front hitting the economy. From Brexit, Covid, Ukraine, the economic collapse of Turkey, the US mid terms and the rapid turnover of the UK political leadership to the general feeling of acceptance in most quarters that the idea of continuous economic growth is a fallacy. It all leaves you a bit down if I’m honest. It certainly damped my usual interest and excitement over the launch of a new Sony camera this week. I currently use an A7R3 and I would generally wait for a couple of versions before upgrading. However, with useful new camera features thin on the ground and with my current camera being more than capable of covering my usage, it’s hard to justify the (very) high asking price. I suppose in a week when COP has brought the environment to the forefront of the news pages, making do with what we have should be seen as a positive thing - and something mentioned by Theo Bosboom in his recent and excellent article on the environment. I should really make the most of the fact I have a King’s ransom of expired film in some medical freezers in the darkroom, for which I just need to plumb the water heater in! With a couple of flooded houses in my history though, I’m far too scared of plumbing to commit. Wish me luck!
