Hundreds of caterpillars try to avoid getting into the water and drowning, by clinging to some floating twigs and leaves. Long spinning threads full of caterpillars often hang from the packed trees, they are used by the caterpillars to move to the next branch in search of food. But in a few cases they end up in the water. The image was taken at one of other wrapped willows near Boven-Leeuwen, the Netherlands. more
