Interview with Simon Butterworth
The Bings are Scotland's version of the great oil/gas rush that is currently happening in Alaska and America but in this case the oil shale was baked in great ovens to remove the oil. more
Peter Dombrovskis, On the Mountain
Continuing our overview of Peter Dombrovskis published books we move onto 'On the Mountain' which was published in the same year that Peter died. You can see more images from this book at the bottom of this article. Interview with David Ward
Last week we put a call out on Facebook and Twitter to solicit questions to ask David Ward in an upcoming interview. We had a great response and we chose the best questions and recorded the result. David was his usual cooperative self and I'm sure we could have gone on a lot longer. https://youtu.be/9obIgvvMZJI Here's a few of David's recent images and you can see more at his website https://www.davidward.photo. more

Wild Rivers – Peter Dombrovskis
One of Joe Cornish's inspirations was and still is Tasmanian photographer Peter Dombrovkis. In this first of a series of videos Joe talks to Tim Parkin about the series of books that were published by Peter and his wife. iPhone as a Viewfinder?
Whether you’re a fan of large format photography or not (I am, many think I’m nuts for it) one of the things that most large format photographers do that could arguably be beneficial to any photographer is the use of a ‘unwanted scenery exclusion device’ - normally a piece of card with a oblong hole in it. There is a better way though.. (at least for wide angles) more
Universal Lens Calibration
Medium format backs have become very popular at the higher end of landscape photography but there is one issue that hasn’t been resolved yet and is unlikely to be completely resolved for some time. The issue is related to the way that sensors are built and although it is slightly different for each sensor ‘family’, there are few exceptions. The problem arises because each pixel isn’t flush with the surface of the sensor; typically the pixel is below the sensor more
Mirex Tilt / Shift Adapters
,,, With everything there is always a downside though and in dedicated tilt shift lenses it is most definitely price. The 17mm, 24mm, 45mm and 90mm Canon lenses costing £1,900, £1,700, £1,200 and £1,100 respectively and the Nikon 24mm, 45mm and 85mm all costing £1,400. This means a tilt shift collection would set you back approx £4k (ignoring the esoteric 17mm). more

Printing Wester Ross
We've covered printing in a video with Joe before but with it being such a minefield it doesn't hurt to go over another example to perhaps pick up on a few more details. In this example, Joe is printing an image captured whilst on a scouting trip in Wester Ross whilst he was also testing out the Mamiya 645 camera with the Phase digital back. https://youtu.be/raKUHe1oqfA more
Hindsight – Difficult Light
One of your favourite features of the magazine, and one you've been asking us to feature as often as possible, is the Hindsight series where we talk to Joe Cornish (and other photographers) about a few of their photographs. This issue we're back with Joe and talking about a set of pictures taken in difficult light and that also happen to reflect the change in photographic medium that Joe has made over the previous decade. Firstly we have what more
