As the days reach their shortest, and the cold snap of November collapses back to persistent rain, it’s time to look to inside hobbies, to reflect on the previous year and to plan the year ahead. We’ve just received 1.4 metric tonnes of Natural Landscape books (Volume Four), so in the near future, I will be mostly boxing up and labelling. Beyond that, I’m getting excited about going out and taking some photographs for the first time in quite a while.

Part of this is setting a goal to try to create a local tourist book for the three Glens (Glen Etive, Glen Coe and Glen Nevis), as a local bookshop has told me they get a few requests for something covering the area. I’m going to document the process for On Landscape. The first instalment will arrive in the new year, and I’ll be looking at some concepts for the book and planning some of the key sections.

I hope you all enjoy a peaceful holiday, and I hope the new year isn’t too interesting (we’ve had enough of ‘interesting times’ over the past year or so!).

I have long admired this image, and it was the first one, not a landscape image, that popped into my mind after reading Charlotte's invite. more

Landscape and all that Jazz

Others have referred to the idea of both music and photography containing rhythm, both containing light and dark, or positive and negative, and to the “subject” being the focus of either piece or image more

The Lech

The special feature of the Lech can be quickly recognized here: Firstly, it has its source much closer to the main Alpine ridge than the Iller and Isar. more
