I’ve had a lot of queries over the years about book publishing and preparation for litho printing, and I’ve been reluctant to respond to them as I didn’t have a great deal of experience. Over the last few years, I’ve designed, prepped and produced three books for the Natural Landscape Photography Awards and learned a huge amount about the process along the way. I’ve also had long chats with Alex Nail, who has also produced two fantastic books during this time (buy the second one before it runs out like the first already has). Between us, I think we’ve covered most potential ‘gotchas’ that the process can throw at people. That doesn’t mean we don’t still have a lot to learn, but it does mean I’m happy to produce a ‘how to’ article, which you can read in this issue.
Talking about requests for articles, we’ve had a few people asking for some articles about weather and landscape photography and I was prompted to think about this again while taking photographs on Buachaille Etive Mor on an incredibly hazy day (May 31st). I presumed it was just a high pressure causing dust, pollen and pollution to get pushed toward the ground, but I’ve since found it was also smoke from the Icelandic volcano on the Reykjanes peninsula, how amazing!! If you’ve any particular weather questions or suggestions for an article, please drop us a line at submissions@onlandscape.co.uk.
