Sunrise over Phillips Lake, USAIan MeadesI was fortunate to be able to experience the total solar eclipse that traversed North America this past August. The area of totality was about 140 miles south of where I live, so I drove down the day before to find a camp site in the Elkhorn Mountains of Eastern Oregon. The media had been reporting that up to one million people were descending on the state to view the eclipse, and so with the local resident viewers I was expecting to be camping with hundreds (if not thousands) of other people. As it turned out, I was the only person camping on a promontory overlooking Phillips Lake – I had the place to myself. more
