For some reason landscape photographers, including myself, tend to spend way too much time trying to find the extraordinary. The classical approach for landscape photographers has by tradition often been about shooting sensational places in beautiful light. The urge is often to find a place where we can take a photograph with a “wow factor”; a sensational photo which overwhelms the viewer and gives you hundreds of likes from social media.

The classical approach for landscape photographers has by tradition often been about shooting sensational places in beautiful light.
Unfortunately this approach has stereotyped landscape photography in a way that the majority of photographers nowadays have very similar shooting strategies. Priority one: find the most epic landscape and shoot it at sunrise or sunset. Herds of photographers are therefore traveling across the globe to the same “fantastic” places and more or less queueing to take their photos.
