It's referendum day here in the UK and the country seems to be fairly split down the middle in terms of whether we should leave or remain in the European Union. The whole affair has become so divisive it's like raising the issue of Photoshopping photos in an online forum. The resulting discussion is typically split on ideological grounds, some people strongly against any sort of manipulation and others very liberal in saying anything goes. Each party brings up history to prove their points, one saying we want the old days back and the other pointing at examples proving the old days weren't as pure as we thought they were (generally, Jerry Uelsmann gets raised here). 500px seems to take the role of Greece and Immigration with people pointing at what such liberal ideas can end up with. Others will point at the Scandinavian and Arctic countries and show they can produce such amazing results, and then people say "yeah by they've got the Aurora!". In the end, like the referendum, the actual answer is "it's complicated". Each position, taken too far, reduces the quality and range of what is possible; each position, when argued too strongly, ends up dividing our communities. On whatever side you are on, just listen and respect people's opinions and get on with your life. These are all minor things in our enjoyment of the world.
